"Update all currencies" indicator in CO area in sap fico

"Update all currencies" indicator in CO area

Question: I need to activate this indicator as of the next year (inactive so far). There are no data since 2007 on but the activation program RKALLEWS only does the activation for all years. Can I activate it somehow or what sort of data conversion do I need to perform?

Answer:
You cant change the indicator if there is transaction data in CO regardless of what it is. The program also comes with a test run.

The Update all currencies indicator enables you to reduce the amount of memory used when posting data to CO objects (for example, cost centers or orders). However, it only works if your database system compresses empty fields. Your database administrator will be able to tell you if your database functions in this way.

Notes
1. If you are not sure whether your database system compresses empty fields, you should always activate this indicator.
2. You should only deactivate it if the following three conditions are met.
Your database system compresses empty fields.
The relevant controlling area and the company codes assigned to it use the same currency (currency type "10").
You are not going to make any organizational changes for this controlling area in the future. Such changes would include assigning new company codes with different currencies, or entering currency settings that differ between the company code and controlling area.
3. If you create a controlling area or specify the relevant control indicators for the first time, the system activates the Update all currencies indicator automatically. However, you can reverse this setting in Customizing by choosing Controlling -> General Controlling -> Production Start-Up Preparation -> Set "Update All Currencies" Indicator.
Note that entries from ealier releases can only be changed using this function.
4. If transaction data already exists for the controlling area in question, you cannot change this indicator. To do so could lead to program errors and data inconsistencies (for example, when planning or when settling orders).
You can however change this indicator in exceptional cases

Answer:
OK, thanks for your reply. I have read this in the help text but the problem that I want to solve is following:
We are just upgrading from 4.6c to 4.70. In 4.70 it is possible to plan for WBS elements in a transaction currency (CJ40 etc...). However, if I try to do it I get the message "No update in foreign currency for CO area XX" and the long text says that this indicator must be set.
If it is not set so far, does it mean that we will be never able to plan in transaction currency?
